Demonstrating the increasing popularity of video sharing in social media, Volvo Trucks UK’popular channel on YouTube has now powered past the one million hits milestone with total views of 1,049,437 in early July.
Volvo Trucks is one of the few truck manufacturers to have engaged wholeheartedly with customers, drivers and truck enthusiasts via social media.Indeed, since it was launched in May 2011, eighty-one videos have been posted to its dedicated UK Channel.
There are currently in the region of 2,000 subscribers to the site, which is regularly updated with dedicated content commissioned by Volvo TrucksUK.
According to Volvo Trucks Press Officer Nigel Hanwell, social media, of which the Volvo Trucks UK YouTube Channel is a part, is playing an important role in gathering and disseminating customers’ and drivers’ stories about their trucks and their life in the transport industry.
He says “We are very pleased that so many people are engaging with the channel. Following on from the huge success of Van Damme and ‘The Epic Split’, it testifies to the fact that our messages are relevant and have contributed enormously to a new way of seeing B2B communication.”
The top three, most-watched videos, which have achieved a total of 559,708 hits to date, are: Greenwood Hire’s fully-laden, ‘Classic’ FH16-750, climbing a steep hill near Scarborough, ‘Classic’ FH16-750 ‘on tour’ round UK truckstops and Simon Gibson Transport’s ‘Classic’ FH with the first XXL cab in the UK.
Visitors to the Volvo Trucks UK’s Channel on YouTube can watch and comment on video subjects that range from films of major UK customer events, including new truck launches, Roadshows, Driving Experience days at the Volvo Test Tracks in Sweden and driver information videos. The latter includes a series of Volvo Driver CPC training videos presented by top freelance trucking journalist Brian Weatherley.
